Meet Homey, a speech-controlled home automation system that allows you to control everything from your lights to your central heating. Made by Athom, a Netherlands based company, Homey wants to bring the future of home automation that much closer to the present, finally bringing sci-fi movie scenes to life.

Homey allows you to do a whole host of things. Imagine setting your lighting and central heating to turn on when you arrive home; having the blinds drawn in the morning and your emails read to you when you wake up; having a reminder to bring your umbrella because it's going to rain later in the day or feeling secure that your front door is definitely locked - all with your voice.

Starting as just a personal project, the founders Stefan Witkamp and Emile Nijssen soon realized the true potential of such a device, especially with the current trend of smart devices and the Internet of Things. They have gone so far as to create an app ecosystem that allows developers to turn everyday items into smart devices, eventually having the entire home connected via voice.

Perhaps the coolest thing is the name, Homey. Just imagine asking for a status update by saying, "what up Homey?". Check out their product video below.
